Aquila Shelters completes 2 new school shelter projects

Aquila Shelters recently completed 2 primary school shelter projects in the state & private sector. In very wet & windy conditions we completed both installations during half-term week to provide all-weather protected social spaces. Both of the structures were standard size canopies. However, each one involved customisation to meet the exact needs of the school.

Parkwood primary nursery

Parkwood primary in Hackney, London approached Aquila to provide a shelter for protecting their pre-school children from the sun’s UV rays. The school chose to go with the Aquila on the basis of our competitive price and the structures exemption from local planning restrictions (part 32 restrictions applying to schools, colleges & hospitals).

To match the built environment the school chose a customised powder coating paint colour in ‘warm red’ for the metalwork with a white PVC canopy. To complete the installation the aluminium columns were surrounded by protective cushioning to ensure the safety of the nursery age children.

Parkwood primary school shelter 4.5 metre x 3 metre

The Parkwood primary installation provides immediate shelter from the entrance to the nursery building and the maximum amount of shade during daylight hours. All Aquila structures are modular and in this instance there is enough room to extend the amount of shelter being provided by a further 3 metres should the school wish to do so in the future.

Cumnor House School

Cumnor House School is an I.A.P.S. boarding and day preparatory school for boys and girls from 7 to 13 years old on the edge of the Ashdown Forest in Sussex.

The problem for the school was how to provide a cost effective permanent structure that would enable the school theatre foyer area to be extended to accommodate the large number of visitors to school plays, concerts and recitals.

Aquila installed one of its standard 6 metre x 6 metre canopies with removable panel walls. As the structure was positioned immediately next to the theatre building entrance to the existing sloping canopy a solution was provided to ensure the entire shelter was fully sealed against the elements.
